A journey off the beaten track, far away from Indonesia's classic surf destinations, surfing Sumba offers a different experience of the surf-trip, something else than what you are usually used to encounter in this country.
The waves are powerful, it's often big and gnarly, and the spots are seldom close from shore.
Surfing in Tarimbang is challenging, requires a real commitment, a good physical condition and being experienced in this kind of conditions, but it's worth the efforts because you will surf awesome waves far away from the crowds, on this island so culturally and geographically different than the other ones nearby.
There's nothing here that's specially organized to cater for the traveling surfers except a few very simple bungalows in most of the surfing locations, but that's what surfing Miller's Right in Tarimbang is all about, that sensation to be so far from everything, but at the same time to feel right back home, thanks to the warm and friendly welcoming of the local people who will take care of you during your stay. Starts from:
Kuta (Bali).
Itinerary:
Day 1: Pick-up and transfer to our hotel at mid-day.
Day 2: Bali-Waingapu (Sumba); Transfer in the morning to Denpasar Airport to connect with outgoing domestic flight, arrival in Waingapu after an hour flight. Departure for Tarimbang in the afternoon, transfer to the losmen.
Day 3 to 13: Surf in Tarimbang. Departure in the afternoon of Day 13 for Waingapu, transfer to the hotel in the afternoon.
Day 14: Waingapu-Bali; Transfer in the morning to Waingapu Airport to connect with outgoing domestic flight, arrival in Denpasar after an hour flight and transfer to the hotel.
Day 15: Transfer to Denpasar Airport to connect with outgoing international flights, or to the hotel of your choice.
